Weekend – Yay!

It seems to have been a long week, long enough that I only got out this morning, too knackered and saving my energy for tomorrow. I birded the Diamonte Wetlands this morning, the first bird I saw was the long-staying White-tailed Kite. Typically it never came very close and the light was poor but I tried to photograph it anyway, it is the grey blob below!

At the west end of the wetlands is a nice little lake (with no parking) so I made my way there, scope in hand and getting odd looks from locals. The lake had the same Tundra Swan from a few days ago and lots of Brewer’s Blackbirds which appear to be solar powered, they never stand still. While there the Coyotes emerged from the marsh a good 150 yards away, record shot below.

Tomorrow I’m very much out and about so expect more crappy photos in the next post.

More from Nevada

After a week of birding for a short time morning and evening I`m now approaching 100 species for my Nevada list! I hope to add a few more over the weekend then fly home via San Francisco where I should get Western Gull for the year. I got my Clark`s Nutcracker today, flight views only and I`m hoping for better Sunday when I revisit the area. Here are a small selection of photos, there are a few dragonflies over on the dragonfly blog for those interested.

American Avocet – this one had two small young so any duck getting within 30m got bashed.

Olive-sided Flycatchers are common here but always up on a high snag.

Fox Sparrows too are common.

California Quail – everywhere!
